Gwen Hooper
Campfire Coordinator
Born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, Gwen credits her parents for instilling in her a true sense of faith, love, and intellect. “I feel extremely fortunate to have grown up with brilliant and powerful female role models like my mother, grandmother and sister, who have always been bold and audacious in all their endeavors. They are my daily inspiration for balance, success, and authentic living,” she says.
Growing up, Gwen spent most summers at the YMCA residential camping program in her area, where she learned the importance of friendship, loyalty, camaraderie, and enjoying the gift of pristine nature and outdoor activities. She also cultivated her communication and project management skills, branching out to further serve in varying departments from Aquatics and Membership to Youth Development.
Driven by creativity and commitment, Gwen has over 20 years of experience working in non-profit organizations, always striving to do the most good and contribute to the best of her abilities to help others. Her most recent position was communications director at The Salvation Army of Memphis & The Mid-South. She also spent several years working in the private sector for a software development firm, the AFL-CIO, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
As Campfire Collective’s Campfire Coordinator, Gwen is committed to providing a high level of service with a smile and facilitating team cohesion. “I believe that relationship-building and clear communications are critical to the successful implementation of change and growth,” she says.
Gwen’s motto is “variety is the spice of life,” and she looks forward to the next new adventure or experience waiting just around the corner. When she is not working, Gwen can be found volunteering at food, music, or film festivals, with the humane society, or hanging on a beach in her native state of Florida.
Fun fact: Gwen was voted Ms. Congeniality as a debutante. A would-be foodie and bourbon connoisseur, she loves trivia, spin classes, group exercise – and the two phat-girl cats that rule her house.
