Personalize Your Platforms

By Mackenzie Grannan

Social media is one of the quickest and most effective ways to connect with your target audience. Whether you are posting pictures, making videos, or telling stories, what you share with your network matters. With all the different platforms and content flooding our collective timelines, it is imperative to ensure what you are posting stands out from the rest. One of the best ways businesses engage with their followers–and customers–is by personalizing their social media profiles. We all want our businesses to be profitable. Here are a few reasons why  they should also be personable.

People like to know who they are giving their business to.

One of my favorite things to incorporate into a social media strategy for a new client is a weekly employee spotlight. When businesses promote and share information about the people working for them, readers can put a face to a name and form a more personal connection to the business as a whole. When customers have a more personal relationship with a company, they may be more willing to reach out for new business or write and share positive reviews. In my work, I’ve found that clients often comment on these posts spotlighting employees with their own testimonials. For new and potential customers, this adds a layer of credibility to the relationship.

People want to see themselves represented in your business.

When deciphering what you should be posting on social media, finding ways to highlight your customers is a great way to increase your engagement and retention. Whether you have an event coming up or you just made a big sale, take the time to capture those occasions. At an event, you can post in real-time and tag the other businesses or individuals celebrating with you. After the fact, these photos and videos make for amazing recap posts to reflect on the highlights of the week or month prior. The key to sharing things like this is tagging all of the respective parties in the post. This opens the door for them to continue sharing and spreading the word. Viewers will want to connect and see themselves on your page, too.

People appreciate having their feedback recognized.

If you’re looking for an easy way to hype up the work you are doing while showing your clients that their input is valued, share client testimonials. This can be as simple as plugging a Google review into a graphic template on Canva and sharing it as a post. Content like this showcases a high satisfaction rate with your services, and it will give viewers a deeper level of trust and commitment to your business as well. Plus, you are helping to spread the word about a job well done, which can result in new leads!

When you humanize your content, you are fostering more personable and intentional relationships with your employees and your customers. Beautiful photos and videos capture attention, but social media graphics can do more than meets the eye. When deployed effectively, your social media strategy can create a deeper sense of community and trust.
