How to Market Your Podcast.

By: Cecilia Fay

Once  you have developed a structure and a name for your podcast, let people know it's time to listen! There are a number of ways you can market your podcast, but here are a few that I find to be the most effective.

  1. Word of Mouth

"The very best way to let people know that your podcast exists is to tell them about it!" Word of mouth can travel fast and in the digital age it can come in many forms. For example, you can send an Instagram message about a new episode to your most recent followers, or simply text family and friends the episode link. You can also utilize word of mouth the old fashioned way through networking and in-person recommendations. You can even create a business card or flier for your show that you can pass out while telling potential listeners about it.

2. Social Media

When it comes to sharing content, social media is an effective tool for almost every promotion, campaign, or project. Unlike a paid advertising strategy, social media has the capability of reaching new audiences for free – a great benefit if your budget is tight. Through timely strategy, you can develop an audience for your podcast through multiple platforms. If you are Whether you create a new account or promote your show on an already existing account, make sure you are consistent with messaging and content. For example, If your podcast is a serious look at mental health issues, you don't want your messaging to be lighthearted or whimsical"

3. Using Your Website and Email Marketing

Your podcast can be shared online, too. Create a podcast page or section on your website with an embedded player. By doing this, you offer your audience a designated place to listen and you drive traffic to your site. It's a win-win! Email marketing is also a great way to invite people to listen to your show. You can create a campaign just for the show or include it into your current  email marketing plan.

A podcast is a great way to market yourself, your business, or a cause, but what is the point if no one is listening? Creating the show is half the battle, but marketing is the other half. By using these tactics, you are on your way to building  your audience. Happy Podcasting!
