Carrying the Torch

Written By: Shannon Briggs

As I began putting together a plan for Campfire Collective, I always knew that one important component would be community service. I wear my heart on my sleeve for Memphis – if you’ve read my blogs and the Campfire Collective newsletter, you know I can’t hide my love for my hometown. This community has embraced Campfire Collective and made our success possible. Without your support, our endeavors would have fizzled out instead of catching fire!

Our identity as a team is closely bound with Memphis. I’ve said before that we believe in working with community-based businesses, so they can in turn lift up our community as a whole. We also believe strongly in using our own resources to give back to the community that has given so much to us. As a team, we’ve brainstormed ways to encourage meaningful volunteerism and foster connections with true change-makers.

I’m excited to announce that we are launching our official Community Impact Program. We chose “Carrying the Torch” as a way to honor the non-profits who have ignited the flames and will allow us to carry a beacon of light forward. As a female business leader in Memphis, I recognize the importance of advocating for the future female leaders in my city. That’s why the team has partnered with organizations that champion women of all ages: DeNeuville Learning Center for Women, Sister Supply, Girls Inc., Restore Corps, Shelby County Drug Court Foundation, and My Cup of Tea. We support these outstanding organizations with our time, in-kind sponsorships, leadership on boards, and more.

As a group, Campfire Collective team members will join with the community on September 1 for 901 Day of Service and in January for the MLK Day of Service. In addition, we are encouraging – and rewarding – our own individual passions! While it isn’t why we volunteer, we are always up for a little fun and friendly competition. For every hour team members volunteer each month, their name goes into a drawing. At the end of the month, we select one name at random from the entries for a gift card. At the end of the year, we hold a Grand Prize Drawing for a gift card for a delectable dinner at The Bar-B-Q Shop and some exclusive Campfire Collective swag.
